La Berarde (1711m)

This is one of our favourite rides, however it cannot be referred to as a col as it ends in a car park. The route takes you through the beautiful village of Venosc (touristic village well worth visiting – white water rafting and Via Ferrata activities can be found here). The road ventures deeper into the mountains getting slightly steeper whilst switching back on occasions. The gradient eases off after going through the quaint village of Saint Christophe en Oisans but the road becomes narrow with steep drop offs to one side so do not lose your concentration!

La Berade’s scenery is truly stunning, it is in the heart of the Ecrins National Park so naturally it is a popular destination for walkers and climbers due to its versatile mountainscape and varied trails and climbs in the area. Before you head back down the mountain you can refuel in the various small restaurants and cafes.
